Street lounges

It’s now the favourite public garden of the residents of Downham market. Entitled Street Lounges, the project by the landscape designer Florent Morisseau in fact fills a gap for this small British conurbation, founded at the time of the Saxons. More than a landscaping exercise,he designer, already recognised for his preceding work - Le Potager embarqué (Grand Prix in the national competition for vegetable gardens in 2012) - in the Hortillonnages Gardens in Amiens, here intended to recreate a meeting place which was convivial and accessible to all: in the image of an urban lounge, its design offers a real invitation to linger, at the meeting point of the two main streets in Downham market, Bexwell Road and Lynn Street. Although the site’s location, alongside a road, may appear unattractive at first glance, it is a very strategic space near very busy thoroughfares. This static location in a space surrounded by movement is also situated a few minutes away from the market square and the bus stop. This landscaped garden consists of a series of cultivated areas, offering a space to pause within the town, in the spirit of Downham Market’s old gardens.
